Gianfranco Zola has issued a rallying cry to the Watford supporters as his team attempt to end their winless run at home to bottom-of-the-table Yeovil Town.

Zola accepts his side are in a “bad moment” after five games without a win and three consecutive defeats at home.

The Hornets are again at Vicarage Road tomorrow (Saturday) for the visit of Yeovil, who have only won once since the opening day of the season and have just nine points from a possible 48 during the 2013/14 campaign.

It has been a frustrating period for the Watford supporters with their side expected to be title challengers.

Zola said: “I have always said, and I stand by this, that playing at home is not always an advantage in this league. I am expecting something from the crowd on Saturday.

“I want a big cheer and big support because in this moment the players might feel it [more]. They have lost recently at home and they will be looking for appreciation and support from the crowd.

“So that is what I really wish for from the crowd on Saturday. There has been a lot of satisfaction in the past and they have given us satisfaction too.

“So we need to make sure this partnership continues. It is good in a moment of difficulty that the two look for support from each other. Hopefully we can then give them something in return.”

He added: “A win on Saturday will be important because that will lead to a more relaxed atmosphere in the ground.

“If we do things in the right way, which I think we are, then the result will be on your side and everyone will be more relaxed.

“So I am looking forward to the game on Saturday and I think we can at least get back on the right track in terms of results.”

One of the plus sides to Watford’s recent run is that their poor form means they have to be “spot on” mentally to beat a Yeovil side who may have been taken lightly if the Hornets were performing well.

Zola said: “It is an opportunity [to end the winless run] but I never trust teams in this league. If they are top of the league or bottom I know it will be a tough game and a tough challenge.

“It will not be easy for us and we are in one of those [difficult] moments, so we have to make sure everything is done properly.

“In the last five games we have picked up two points so that tells us that there is a situation here in terms of results.”

He added: “I think this year the demand is always there no matter whether we play teams that are at the top of the table or teams at the bottom.

“It depends on the time and the conditions you play them. If you are in good form and everyone is available, then it makes the game more approachable.

“If you are in a situation like ours, where we haven’t got results recently, and you’re playing a team that is on paper not going through a good moment then it can be difficult.

“In another moment maybe you go into the game dangerously relaxed and you could underestimate the difficulty of the game.

“But our frame of mind at the moment needs to be spot on, even if we are playing a team bottom of the league.”
