Watford goalkeeper Manuel Almunia and Josh McEachran could both return from illness for tomorrow’s trip to Burnley while midfielder Almen Abdi may resume training later this week.

Head coach Gianfranco Zola was more positive on a handful of absentees ahead of tomorrow’s match at Turf Moor, including Almunia, who missed Saturday’s defeat to Yeovil Town.

“Manuel is better,” Zola said. “He is in the squad and we will see tomorrow (Tuesday) how he feels.

“I think there might be a possibility of him playing - he is not fully recovered but we’ll see tomorrow.”

McEachran was also ruled out of Saturday’s game with illness and Zola said the midfielder has returned to training with a decision still to be made tomorrow.

Zola said: “Josh has been back in training but he has been ill all week so I will have to decide whether to include him in the squad tomorrow.”

Abdi has been out with a foot injury for three months but Zola is hopeful the influential midfielder may return to training later this week.

“Almen is much better and we are very pleased with that,” Zola continued. “Maybe in a couple of days’ time he will be training again with the team which will be very good.”

When asked if there was a chance Abdi might be involved in Saturday’s trip to Leeds United, Zola added: “We will see what we can do about that.”

Gabriele Angella has been struggling with a thigh problem and while it is unlikely the centre half will play against Burnley, he is expected to be available at the weekend.

Troy Deeney, Sean Murray, Nyron Nosworthy and Reece Brown have all recovered from recent injuries and are available.

Lloyd Doyley (hamstring), Ikechi Anya (calf), Essaid Belkalem (ankle) and Tommie Hoban (ankle) are however still ruled out.
