Watford Fencing Club's Jasmine Porter has been selected for the England Under-15 squad which will travel to Paris next month to compete at an international tournament.
Porter, who trains three times a week at Three Rivers Young Blades, will travel with the 12-strong team to take part in the Marathon Fleuret, an event which attracts national fencers from more than 30 countries.
Porter sealed her place in the squad by finishing ninth in the national rankings for her age group and she is looking forward to testing herself against international opponents.
She said: “I am really looking forward to the event in Paris. Last year there were over 250 competitors who are the best from around the world so I will get a chance to really test myself.
“This year has been really hard work but getting good results in both the British and English youth championships really helped with my qualification points.
“I am really grateful to my coach Dominique Szokolovics. I could not have got selected without her.”
Three Rivers Young Blades chairman, Mike Ellis, said: “She has far less experience than many of her new international teammates but I am sure that she will do her club and country proud.
“It is fantastic that a youngster who first picked up a fencing weapon here at TYRB less than three years ago has gained international recognition and this is also a great reflection on the coaching team that we have.”
