Tabard fall to Brentwood defeat
12:44pm Wednesday 18th December 2013 in Sport
Tabard fell to a 49-22 defeat at Brentwood in London League One North on Saturday.
The visitors scored three good tries but their opponents managed to penetrate their defence too many times.
Tabard tried to get points on the board in the first half but a succession of penalties against them meant that hard gained territory was lost time after time. The side did open the scoring however with a well-taken try after 15 minutes.
The try was started off by number eight, Scott Stoba who surged upfield through the Brentwood defence.
When he was stopped on the Brentwood ten metre line the ball was recycled quickly and passed through the hands to full-back Elliot Hurrell, coming into the line at pace and he outflanked the cover defence to score.
Jack Reilly then increased Tabard’s lead with a penalty goal from a long way out but right at the end of the half Brentwood got two scores of their own, a forward try claimed by second row Woodcock and a pushover claimed by their number eight. With the conversion added Tabard turned round losing 14-8.
Midway through the third quarter Brentwood stretched their lead with another couple of tries.
Tabard did not wilt under this barrage and replied when wing Tom King scampered through the first line of defence and a kick ahead was chased and touched down by flanker Tom Davies. Reilly added the conversion and the visitors continued to attack.
Tabard turned the Brentwood ball over and Reilly started the move before a powerful run up the wing by King completed it. Reilly converted and Tabard were within six points of Brentwood. But the hosts showed their strength with three late tries to put a gloss on their victory.
Tabard return home to face Ruislip this weekend.
