Watford Harriers were a force to be reckoned with at the South of England Vets cross-country Championships at Shuttleworth on Saturday.

The Veteran Women were particularly determined and their star performer was Caroline Whittaker, who raced to a silver medal in the V50 category, missing out on a win by only 23 seconds.

Whittaker started steadily and finished well in a time of 25.39.

Moira Craft and Danielle Sanderson were next in for Harriers, coming 22nd and 23rd respectively. Craft was eighth in V40 and Sanderson was fourth in V50.

Janina Blasi finished 56th in 30.00 and Christine Dearman came 96th in 40.05. In the Over-40 men’s race Matt Adcock performed impressively for 20th overall and eighth in the Over-45 category.

Stewart Dearman crossed the line in 38th with a time of 42.43 in the Over-50 men’s race with a strong performance.

At the same venue, Angela Halford was selected to represent Herts in the inter-counties event for the first time.

Halford put in an impressive display to come 47th in 25.12.

Chloe Dearman was also in action in the Under-17 women’s 6k event, finishing 63rd in 21.27.
