Old Merchant Taylors’ left with the bragging rights on Saturday after they recorded an important 32-5 home win over local rivals Fullerians in London Three North West.

With OMT chasing promotion and their opponents looking to turn around some poor recent form, both teams were eager to earn a positive result in front of a sizeable crowd.

The home side started the stronger and Peter Sinderberry’s well-placed cross-kick found Joe Isaacs on the left wing and he ran over the line for the first try.

The conversion was missed and the score remained 5-0 until half-time.

With the wind in their favour, Taylors’ kicked for territory in the second half and within four minutes of the restart extended their lead to 12-0 with a second try for Isaacs.

A try against the run of play brought Fullerians back to 12-5 but a penalty for the hosts then widened the gap to 15-5.

OMTs then rolled through the gears and a third and fourth try were soon to arrive courtesy of James Gregory and Tom Vercoe. With the bonus point assured, there was still time for one more score from Brian Bernardez before Sinderberry added the extras to wrap up the win.

OMT are now only four points behind second-placed Grasshoppers with their promotion prospects looking more healthy.
