New Watford boss Giuseppe Sannino says working in England is a dream come true

Giuseppe Sannino says taking charge of Watford is a dream come true and believes he showed his passion during today’s 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town.

Sannino led the Hornets for the first time this afternoon after he was appointed as Gianfranco Zola’s successor on Wednesday.

The Italian held his first press conference as Golden Boys boss after today’s match, with head of medical Marco Cesarini acting as translator.

Sannino said: “It was a dream for me to land in England. This game was 90 minutes of my life that I was dreaming of.

“Tactically, we were good and we got a point but I will be honest with you, the job is not done and we need much more effort and it is important to move in the table.

“We played against a very good squad who are on a good run recently.

“This is a starting point for us.”

Today’s match was a scrappy affair. The Hornets restricted Town’s threat for much of the match but also struggled to maintain possession for the majority of the contest.

However, Sannino stressed: “I would like to play the kind of football where the ball is on the floor and we create lots of chances.

“This is the kind of football that I was always watching from Italy and I think I can adapt quickly to this culture.”

Ipswich took the lead on 73 minutes when the home team were awarded a controversial penalty due to a handball decision given against Gabriele Angella.

But Sannino would not be drawn on the matter, saying: “I am the type of coach who accepts the decisions of the referee so I have nothing to say about it. Even if we lost 1-0, I would say the same thing.”

Sannino took charge of the Hornets for the first time on Wednesday and accepted his impact has been minimal this week.

The 56-year-old used his first interview in England to pay tribute to his predecessor, Zola.

Sannino said: “It was only two days. I am not a magician. [But] we know the kind of football in the Championship.

“My first thought is for Gianfranco Zola because he did a great job here. Last season it was amazing that Watford achieved the Play-Off final.

“I think the position now is not where Watford should be at the moment and in two days I couldn’t do any more than I did and if we had of picked up three points today, it would have been because of Gianfranco.

“What I gave was my way on the touchline and the way I am with the lads - to live the game with passion.”

It's amazing how s many people assume twitter feeds to be genuine. Even official ones are often written by agents or pr bods. Apart from the really thick like rio, that is. He writes his own.

It seems to me a good start. A harsh penalty aside , there was much to be positive about. Deeney scoring again and we seemed to be tighter at the back.
I think if we get a good win against Millwall then confidence will come flooding back and we will see the talent we know we have climbing back up the table to fight for a play off place. COYH

Very proud of our fans, never stopped singing all through the match. Ipswich fans only made a noise after their team scored. Happy with a point. Nice easy train journey St Neots - Peterborough - Ipswich. Wish they were all like that.

Just one concern at this moment - not many of the coaches other than Alec to gets the points across in training in English. Or do the others speak English. We have the 'locals' over the Christmas - plenty of passion and guile required.

Good to see Deeney on the mark again, and ten for the season now, and well on the way to bettering his tally for last season.

Strange though, that seven of his goals have come away from home and the only he has scored at the Vic this season was the hat-trick he netted against Bournemouth.

This seemed to go to his head a bit, and he suffered quite a bad run after this, and received a lot of flack from many fans.

Hope he can redress the balance and bang a few more in against our "friends" from Millwall and QPR.

And well done Baldy, for your first point in English football. Hope there are many more to come in the second half of the season.
