Kevin McCarthy was born in Bethnal Green. Breaking into the team as a midfielder under Mike Keen shortly before his 18th birthday, he held onto his place the rest of the season but never threatened to establish himself thereafter.
He made one appearance under Graham Taylor, the last of his 38 for the club - before he was out of his teens - before being released to join Lillehammer in Norway.
