Berkhamsted are up to second in the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division after two early goals helped the Comrades complete a 2-0 win against Harefield United.

The deadlock was broken in the fourth minute as Josh Chamberlain’s corner was met by Connor Calcutt and his effort found the net.

The advantage was doubled 60 seconds later. Another Chamberlain corner was not dealt with by the Harefield defence and Dale Sears collected a pass from Ed Canham before firing home.

Berko dominated the opening 45 minutes and had several chances to add to their lead. United goalkeeper Michael Pearce was kept busy and he denied Chamberlain and James Bent.

Calcutt and Frederick missed chances and Chamberlain sent a shot wide after being put through on goal. United rarely threatened with only the lively Jake Girt causing the Berkhamsted defence problems.

Berko failed to find the net in the second period despite numerous opportunities. Calcutt shot over the crossbar while, at the other end, Girt broke away and sent an effort just beyond the far post.

Pearce continued to make saves and denied Ashley Morrissey and Frankie Jowle while Chamberlain drilled a strike wide.

It was a comfortable victory for Berkhamsted who are five points behind league leaders Ampthill Town.
