Millwall sack manager Steve Lomas following Watford defeat
Millwall have sacked manager Steve Lomas following their 4-0 defeat at Watford today.
The loss was the Lions’ third in succession and leaves them 20th in the Championship table.
Chief executive Andy Ambler told the club’s official website: “We are very disappointed that it hasn’t worked out for Steve. He has been thoroughly professional in his approach to the job during his short period with the club and remains a very promising young manager.
“However, the board feels that it is in the best interests of Millwall that we make the change at this time and the search for a successor to Steve begins immediately. We thank Steve for his efforts and wish him the very best for the future.”
Millwall fans called for Lomas to lose his job at various stages during today’s game at Vicarage Road and following the match he was asked about these.
“I always knew the situation,” he responded. “The buck stops with me, I’m the manager, simple as that, but we’ve just got to get on with it. We’ve got another game in two days, we’ve got to regroup, see who’s fit and try and put in a performance that shows the fans the players are fighting for them as much as me.”
Watford secured their first win in 11 games thanks to penalties from Troy Deeney and Lewis McGugan, with Fernando Forestieri and Ikechi Anya netting further efforts.
