Referee James Adcock explained the players' safety was his primary concern when he called off Watford's Championship match at Yeovil Town yesterday.

The Nottinghamshire official took the decision after inspecting the dugouts and pitch - both of which were flooded at Huish Park - and seeing the forecast for the rest of the afternoon.

Adcock told Sky Sports: "The safety people at the club have obviously had an input on it as well, but the pitch is very very boggy and I have to take that into consideration as well, for the safety of the players.

"The last thing that I want is injured players."

He added: "I arrived here at just gone two o'clock for the 5.30pm kick-off, and straight away I was told to look at the dugouts, which were completely flooded, right to the roof, from the pitch.

"The pitch has been covered for the last two days but the weather conditions and the forecast were just terrible really, for the rest of the day."
