Beppe Sannino refuses to confirm if Watford want Arsenal and West Bromwich Albion loanees to return

Watford head coach Beppe Sannino refused to confirm whether the Hornets will try to re-sign George Thorne and Hector Bellerin on loan.

The duo returned to West Bromwich Albion and Arsenal respectively following the expiration of their loan deals at Vicarage Road.

Chelsea’s Josh McEachran has also gone back to his parent club and it is very unlikely the 20-year-old will return to Watford as he failed to make a single appearance throughout December and didn’t feature after Sannino took charge.

Thorne and Bellerin were regularly used by the Italian and when asked if the Golden Boys wanted them to return, Sannino said: “The Bristol City game is the main focus now and then after that I can be more precise.”

Thorne, who featured in seven consecutive games for West Brom’s first team between late 2012 and January 2013, played in all eight of Watford's games during his six-week spell at the club and helped fill the holding midfield role left by Jonathan Hogg's departure to Huddersfield Town in the summer.

England Under-21 international McEachran was initially signed to play that role but he failed to cement a place in the team and has not featured since the 1-0 defeat to Bolton Wanderers on November 23 – the day Thorne made his debut.

In total, McEachran made six starts and two substitute appearances in all competitions during his time at Vicarage Road.

Wideman Bellerin, who has made just one substitute appearance for the Gunners’ first team, joined the Hornets at the end of November when the club had several players out due to injuries.

He made five starts and one substitute appearance for Watford during his spell, which lasted just over a month.

Certainly need Thorne back or sign a decent holding midfield player.

With Merkel signed Thorne is not needed. We will be overloaded with midfielders once Abdi is fit.

Thorne is important unless new loan signing Alexander Merkel has been brought in to fill this position (and is good enough?) as we only have Iriney left as a defensive midfielder at the moment and people have very mixed views on whether he is up to the task and even if he is we still need cover.

Bellerin is a good one to keep as he has good defensive skills and is quick and has provided good cover/alternatives out wide on both the right and left.

McEachran is unfortunately surplus to requirements - he is not a bad player however he does not fill any gaps or improve on what we already have.

Abdi is not a defensive midfielder nor are any of the others other than Iriney. People have mixed views on Iriney and we have yet to see how Merkel fits in and whether he has even been brought in to fill the defensive role. Thorne definitely has ability and I prefer him over Iriney.

I like Thorne and think we should get him back. Bellerin is also half decent. McEachran can definitely go back to Chelsea!

Bellerin is quality. His pace is needed. Thorne did really well I'd welcome him back, but I've always rated Iriney too. Thorne probably shades it for me.

Strange how people see things differently. I do not rate Thorne at all. 5% or 10% of his efforts are tellling but the rest is real rubbish - he too often looks like he does not know what to do with the ball. Iriney needs to push on and will not do so unless he is given more time on the pitch.

Of course we need Thorne, he has been one of our best players in recent games.

And you can forget about Abdi. With all of the latest negative info about him coming from the medical staff, I doubt we will see him again this season, or maybe ever again in a Watford shirt?

With Thorne, Bellerin, and McGreachan all gone back to their parent clubs, who is going to play down here in Bristol tomorrow?

Anya, Pudil, and Faraoini are all supposed to be injured (as well as Foresteri and the rest), so who are the wing backs going to be?

Maybe back to a 4-4-2 with Doyley and Cassetti as the full backs?

There seems to be no news that the two new signings can play tomorrow, so the team is beginning to look a little thin.

BTW, the weather is okay down here, and I think the game will go ahead unless we get that late torrential rain which we experienced on Boxing Day last year!

Failed to set the quick tempo we needed, faffing around and passing sideways. Too slow and a total liability when receiving the ball facing his own goal.

I agree, he is ok, but neither of this seasons loanees or Iriney seem to me to be an improvement on Eustace or Hogg IMHO. I thought Bellerin looked by far the best of the loanees this year. I can see him becoming a Premiership regular. I doubt we will take him back. What do you think the new manger has been set as a target this year - sneaking up through the playoffs surely is the only possible best outcome. As they are in effect a cup competition, i would hope we approach the cup as good practice. Quarter finals this year to boost confidence?

Agree that Thorne is not the answer never tackles and only passas the ball back to centre backs Iriney looks the part running around like a headless chicken when the other team have the ball but is to slow when we have it and also gives it away - god we miss Hoggy
