Watford navigated the first stage of their path to the FA Cup final by beating local rivals Luton Town 4-3 in a third round replay at Vicarage Road.
Nigel Callaghan and George Reilly put the Hornets in the driving seat in the first half, but Mal Donaghy pulled one back just before the break.
John Barnes restored the two-goal margin five minutes into the second half, but two Paul Walsh goals within a minute levelled the tie once more.
Mo Johnston headed the extra-time winner after Barnes had flicked on Callaghan's near-post corner.
"Pure, raw excitement," was Graham Taylor's summary of events.
