Cristian Battocchio's display at left wing back against Bristol City was an indication that Beppe Sannino has a group of "extraordinary guys", according to the Hornets' head coach.
Injuries to Ikechi Anya and Daniel Pudil, plus Hector Bellerin's ineligibility, meant Sannino was forced to use Battocchio at left wing back; a position he has not played before.
When Marco Cassetti - who could be considered the Hornets only other recognised wing back - was forced off injured at half time, Sannino brought on Connor Smith, who was a forward and attacking midfielder during youth football, at right wing back.
When asked about Battocchio's display, Sannino replied: "It makes me aware – and you aware – that I have extraordinary guys.
"I also have to praise Connor Smith because those two players had to play in positions they have never played before. So I am happy [with them]."
