Vote for your Watford man of the match after Hornets beaten 1-0 at home to Reading

Watford Observer: Watford's Sean Murray. Picture: Action Images Watford's Sean Murray. Picture: Action Images

It was another disappointing result at home for Watford yesterday (Saturday) as they lost 1-0 to Reading but there were still some encouraging individual performances. Who was your Hornets man of the match?

Lewis McGugan was the hosts' main creative force during the game and looked dangerous with the ball in the opponents' half while Sean Murray put in a tireless performance in midfield.

Diego Fabbrini caused the visitors' defence problems with his running on and off the ball and Hector Bellerin made a valuable contribution down the right-hand side on his return at wing-back.

Or perhaps there was another Watford player who you felt stood out?

If so, vote 'Other' and make your views known below in the comments section.

Why isn't every player on the list, making the vote more relevant... If indeed it ever is relevant!

Maybe I'm watching a different t game but I do not understand what the hype about Murray is? I think he was shocking yesterday once again. I do not remember him completing one pass to a yellow shirt? We conceded because of him losing possession. I would like to see Battochico start instead.
On the plus, I thought fabbrini was great. Was all over the pitch and seemed to be looking for a pass than taking on 10 men. A few more games and he'll come good.
Angella was a rock too. First half of the first half he struggled to deal with Prognyak but thought he improved and kept him in his pocket.
Much better second half just need a striker whom can finish!!!

Just don't understand how an objective assessment of yesterday's game can result in the list for voting. Totally agree with your selection Smithy with Ekstrand just edging it for me from Angella. Just on another point I thought that Beppe should have subbed Merkel when he had the chance because he was really a walking yellow card for most of the second half. Debut, enthusiasm and frustration, he was walking the line and for me should have been taken out of the firing line when Battochio came on..

There was no man of the match yesterday maybe Angella might be worth a mention at least he tried to get things going on occasions. I can't understand his team selection he bought in Merkel who has not played for eight weeks pushed Murray wider and left Battochio out. Foresteri left out in favour of the hopeless Fabrini. When he decides to change it Forestieri plays wide instead of taking Fabrini off. With Merkel it the same as Mcechran and Thorne they must play straight away instead of given time to settle in and get used to our system of play and improve fitness. Whats wrong with Battochio even Iriney has not been playing badly and he's left out.

Sorry to be so sarky but its all a little bit depressing at the moment.
That list must be a wind up, IMHO the only players to get anywhere near a 7 were Ekstrand, and Agnella. Fabrinni showed improvement on his MOM performance against qpr and Merkel showed signs of a good player but was out of position. Irriney should have been defensive mid and then Merkel in the Abdi role. Please tell me this is all a bad dream ! can we go back to Blackpool away let Abdi take the penalty and then take him off for a rest.

Fabbrini was getting kicked around yesterday and won many free kicks. Hardly being bundled off the ball. Unlike Forestieri when he came on, fell over a few times without winning a free kick and got booked for diving. Fabbrini was easily the best player, only one finding space, taking players on, making incisive passes. Just a shame no one around to finish it off.
Angella, Ekstrand and Pudil were good like they are most games.
Bellerin, Murray and McGugan were awful with the former 2 subbed too late. Murray runs around, gives the ball away and goes missing too often for a central midfielder. McGugan so wasteful and holds onto the ball too long.

i counted at least 6 fouls on fabbrini, some of which merited bookings.i thought he played well and gave a good shift.needs to strenghten in aerial battles though.and he set up most of the through balls for our decent chances.

Fabrrini was a lot better yesterday than previously. He has frustrated me immensely in recent weeks as he will beat the first 2 men with ease and then keep his head down and try to do too much. However yesterday he beat his man or held the ball well and looked for a pass. At the moment most of his best work is not done in dangerous areas though. I would like to see him given more game time against BC, playing behind 2 strikers in a free role. His best asset is his ability to beat a man or two, so we don't want to discourage him from running at people as he draws fouls and draws opposition yellow cards. But he must learn to keep his head up and spot a pass and work on his decision making which won't happen overnight. Also I think we as fans need to understand that he WILL occasionally lose the ball ( his type of players always will - Ronaldo doesn't beat his man every time) and if we can start seeing some end product (yesterday was a start) then of course we can forgive those times he runs down a blind alley and not tut too loudly!

Merkel's sending off was born out of frustration, the amount of times he looked to give a pass, no one wanted it and when he wanted the ball no player had the vision to see where he was(In plenty of space), he tried to show the other midfield players how to tackle throughout the game but not one **** took up the challenge, very poor midfield yesterday.
Also seemed both Doyley and Murray had no confidence on the ball and couldn't wait to get rid.

For me angella with ekstrand close. Ekstrand is good defensively, but I would like to see him pass the ball forward more. Particularly in the first half it was sideways or back, usually to Angella who was able to make the pass Ekstrand could have made. The defence generally played well, shown by the fact that apart from the goal Almunia had little to do. Hope on Tuesday the team play for a whole game, not the second 45 minutes.

WIll the person who compiled this shortlist please reveal himself and confess he wasn't at the game?

McGugan and Murray were VERY poor (one trick pony Lewis delivered every set piece straight to the Reading goalie or worse) and Bellerin didn't get forward enough.

Fabbrini was good, just a shame he seems like a player that doesn't 'fit; him and Deeney seem to be playing on a different pitch rather than as a pair.

Angella and Ekstrand for me along with Merkel. Amazing to think the latter hadn't played for a year, first game in England and out of position yet he still looked a class above the other midfielders; once he shakes off the rust (and we get a proper DMF along with Abdi/CB instead of SM/LM) we might actually have a decent midfield again.

Pointless providing lists that bear no relation to the game. Surely it is simple enough to give a list of everyone who played so we can choose who we want not who we are told. Thought Pudil had his best match and possibly deserved it. McGugan apart from one good cross did not have a good game, Murray was not up to his usual standard, Bellerin had his poorest game and as for Fabrinni - he may be able to dance like the sugar plum fairy with a ball but recently despite all his effort, he seems to have as much chance of creating a goal scoring opportunity as me sitting in the stands.
