Watford suffered a 3-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion at the Goldstone Ground in a second division game.

The Hornets' Scottish midfielder Willie Falconer received a red card for a professional foul in conceding the penalty that provided the final goal with seven minutes to go. He had also been sent off in the same fixture the previous season.

This was the club's sixth dismissal of the campaign, a then club record.
