Watford boss Beppe Sannino says he is deaf to reports linking Cristian Battocchio with a move away from the Hornets

Watford Observer: Picture: Holly Cant Picture: Holly Cant

Beppe Sannino says he is “deaf” to reports in Italy which have linked Cristian Battocchio with a loan move away from the Hornets.

The Italian Under-21 international has made 19 appearances for the Golden Boys this season but the majority of those have been as a substitute.

Italian sides Padua and Novara are two clubs supposedly interested in the midfielder but Sannino is happy to have the 21-year-old at Watford.

“I am deaf,” Sannino responded through an interpreter when asked about the reports yesterday.

“I have watched Battocchio training for us today and working for Watford. At the moment he is playing here and I am happy with that. He may play tomorrow, I don’t know yet.”

Battocchio is better than Murray an McGugan in my opinion.

But with merkel, abdi (please) he will know chances will be even more limited.

I read this as him likely to go ...

We don't want the Batch to go! Classy player who should be played more often. Has proved to be versatile recently as wing-back. This would be a step backwards. One of our best players over last two seasons and not just a cameo. Also represents our future. Luv the Horns!

Yes, I would have Batto in before both McGoo and Murray. SM has improved this season but still drifts in and out of games as does McGoo. Having both of them in the side is a luxury we can't afford.

I fail to see how CB doesn't get the nod before McGugan or Murray? Whenever he is on we look more lively and the tempo picks up yet he has hardly been used?

McGugan is a luxury player and a passenger. At least Murray makes an effort but rarely has a game we know he's capable of.

The club should keep him.

He should play more, makes the difference, scores goals and class player.

Why would he want a backward move and going to lower Italian sides.

Makes no sense.

The sense is that, as an Italian under-21 international, he needs to be in the public eye for his career to progress. Young players often do better playing in a lower league than warming a top-flight bench.

I like him more than McGugan, but he won't get in the team ahead of Merkel, Abdi and new dm. We will need homegrown players so Murray and McGugan will likely make the bench, meaning Battochio might not even make the bench.

You can see why his agent is trying to sort out a loan.

He is more in the public eye at Watford!

Both Novara and Padova are struggling seri a B sides.

He has done very well in his games for the U21 and is one of the leaders of the U21 squad. This was partly due to the fact he played for Watford on a regular basis.

I feel he's better than a few we have at the moment and should be playing. Going to either of the the two seri a B sides would not do his confidence any good in my mind.

Agreed. You state the reality. But isn't it a ridiculous situation where we have our best players either injured or on the bench and play the under-performing ones? With FF, Anya, Battochio and Abdi we look so much sharper as a team.

Lay off Lewis...He is not as bad as your all saying he is. Your like a load of bullies all joining the same gang. He has quality and the team as a whole hasn't performed really well since he has been here. He seems to have a good link up with Deeney and when we get a free kick we all want him to take it. I'm sure you will see a different McGugan when Merkel and Abdi are fully fit.

McGugan a passenger ? Can not believe those comments.
Batto has rarely had an influential game. OK as impact or cover though.
We have too many players like that & I guess McG could be classed as such, but he does take defenders on, even if he's struggled to deliver much recently. You've forgotten those goals earlier in the season ?

I'd back him to get more before the season is out.

You must be in the minority there then.
On Saturday, whenever we had a free kick, I think myself and most of the Rookery were praying that he WOULDN'T take it!!

I really do hope to see a different player when Abdi and Merkel are in the first team selection - a player on the bench.

Have to disagree Jason, unless we have found ourselves a world class player in Merkel because in a struggling team and his first appearance he was a hundred times better than any game McGugan has appeared in but saying that and it's a very slim chance, let's hope Battocchio plays and McGugan plays in a more advanced role behind Deeney, then after, maybe we can have a proper debate.

McGugan has played more decent performances then what some are saying. For me in games where I have seen Batty come on he hasnt exactly shifted the balance of play in our favour.
However I can understand his frustrations at not playing but, for me the midfield player to go out on loan should be Murray. His game at the moment shows inconsistency with his performances and he is the one player I feel will benefit the most from a time away from the club.
Keep Battochio.. Loan Murray!

McGugan wimps out of tackles (witness Merkel getting left in no mans land) and insists on taking all dead balls, including corners which he is crap at, Murray on the other hand fights for everything, is twice the player he was last year and is still developing. A good midfield player will get stuck in when things are going wrong , he will gee the other players up to get them going, I don't see that in McGugan but I see it in Battocchio, Merkel and Murray.

McGugan wimps out of tackles (witness Merkel getting left in no mans land) and insists on taking all dead balls, including corners which he is crap at, Murray on the other hand fights for everything, is twice the player he was last year and is still developing. If it comes to a choice between the two for a place i know who gets my backing
McGoo

Had a guy sent from another office for the day to help us out. He had to travel so arrived at 11.15. Went through the intro bit and then he phoned the Mrs until 12.15. Sat down and ate 5 apples until 1.00 so we thought OK that is lunch out of the way. No, he goes to lunch at 1.00 and comes back at 2.15 and works until 3.00 and then goes home.

McGoo - feel the same about many of his games this season - just another day at the office.

Spot on
