England and Watford-born bowler Steve Finn will return home from England’s tour of Australia “for his own good” according to coach Ashley Giles.

The former Parmiter’s School pupil was named in England’s 17-man squad for the Ashes but didn’t feature in any of the five tests which all ended in defeat for the tourists.

England’s one-day coach Giles said on Wednesday that Finn was “not selectable at the moment” and the 24-year-old had to "work on technical aspects of his game".

The Middlesex right-armer was not involved in the opening one-day international which England lost by six wickets and missed out on Tuesday's 172-run victory against a Prime Minister's XI.

"Mentally there's no problem but it does wear you down," Giles told BBC Sport. "Sometimes through your career you go through those ups and downs and his timing is out.

"That then can affect your confidence and certainly it is not coming out as quickly as he would like.

"I suppose he has been in this state for at least a couple of months and it hasn't worked. We feel now that it is best to take him out of it.

"Sometimes you do have to do that, you take guys back."

Giles was adamant Finn has a future with the national side and stressed the former Langleybury player remains one of England’s most talented bowlers.

He added: "He has been working hard over the last couple of months on technical aspects of his bowling and Steven and the coaches all feel continuing this work out of the performance environment will be beneficial for him."

They should send the coaches home and just let the lad bowl naturally.
Coaches nearly ruined Anedersons career years ago and then he went back to what comes naturally.

To work on his technique! Should be sat next to Bairstow, Root, Cook, and Bell on the plane then if thats the problem.
Should have just let him go out and bowl fast like Aussies did with Johnson.

Perhaps the fact that he hasn't played a single competitive game on the tour is something to do with it. How about see what he does in an actual game. He can't be any worse than most of the rest of the team!!
