Watford snatched the opening goal in first-half injury-time against Bournemouth to lead at the break.
Gabriele Angella headed Lewis McGugan’s in-swinging free kick into the top corner in the second minute of injury-time to open the scoring at Goldsands Stadium.
It has been a thoroughly entertaining match so far where both sides had glorious chances to go in front.
Cristian Battocchio could be set to leave the Hornets on loan but he started this afternoon and he created the Hornets’ best chance of the first half, when his perfectly-weighted cross picked out McGugan who mishit his shot wide from ten yards.
Battocchio had a long-range effort tipped wide by Lee Camp but Marc Pugh, like McGugan, arguably should have put his side in front when a rare Fitz Hall error allowed him to be free inside the area, only for the midfielder to slice wide.
Matt Ritchie had an effort deflected narrowly over as Bournemouth finished the first half the stronger before Angella snatched the advantage late on.
Injury to Iriney meant the returning Almen Abdi came on midway through the opening 45 minutes.
