Listen to Watford head coach Beppe Sannino respond to comments regarding touchline animosity

Watford Observer: Picture: Action Images Picture: Action Images

Watford head coach Beppe Sannino played down the apparent animosity between the team's benches during the Hornets' 1-1 draw at Bournemouth.

Sannino and Cherries boss Eddie Howe appeared to argue about the way some of the Watford players were acting in the latter stages of the game.

Howe said there was "a lot of aggro" between the teams' coaching staff but Sannino made light of the Bournemouth manager's comments.

"I'm always focusing on the game," he said. "I think both coaches sometimes showed the desire to be on the pitch and maybe we got too close sometimes but that can happen.

He added with a smile on his face: "I sometimes jump into the other technical area but only to speak with my players."

The colourful Italian has been known to adopt an unusual dress code on the touchline so far this season, matching a smart black suit with a pair of football boots.

We asked him why, given the muddy conditions at Bournemouth, he had ditched the boots in favour of a smarter pair of black trainers.

"It's a problem - I blame the kitman" he joked.

"It's because it was muddy and with these shoes I can be a bit higher and get a better view - with football boots I sink into the grass."

I am liking Beppe more and more. He doesn't get sucked in to the slagging match that often follow controversial incidents. But no-one could fault his passion and commitment .
I am certain he will haul this team of talented players up into the play offs. Yellow tinted glasses maybe but if you don't wear them why are you on this site COYH

LMAO - you want to take a look close to home mate. How many of your players spent time feigning injury ?

Taking a breather is part of the game - all clubs do it and shouldn't. I don't want to see players spending time on the floor - there is a difference with CHEATING to get a pen and THEN running up to the ref a fellow pro sent off. Vile.

I will not condone a player taking a dive for a pen and then trying to get an opponent sent off - knowing he has taken a dive.

Even the well known players in the diving club - never rush up to the ref asking to get a fellow pro sent off.

The pen being saved was the right outcome.

Ahaha so funny. Saying that alumina pushed the ref and moaned at him for 5 mins. Also saying that alumina touched Pugh with his right hand and "putting him off his stride" sounds like they were all at the wrong game !!!

MA did not push the ref - if he did he would have been sent off. Players put their hands on the refs sleeve all the time. It is part of human body language and is a signal of companionship. That's why we shake hands, historically we shook hands to show we are not carrying a sword!

MA may well have been sent off for his non-existent foul but for no doubt having been told he had already made a complete b0110cks by having already sent off one innocent player.

1881 - thanks for your contributions for the Bournemouth Echo.

I am afraid I have let you down badly - I am getting very high positive scores. Maybe I have a good following from the wobby site, or I have good persuasive skills.

That said - I went for a job and was asked at interview, what my biggest weakness is? I said my honesty.

The interviewer said - "I like that, I see honesty as a strength".

Seems then saying - "I could not give a sh1t what you think", was not a good idea!.

Um...probably anyone who has to live in the drab suburbia of Watford and may wish to swap it for miles of the best beaches in the country. I've got no problem with good banter between fans but pick your battles sensibly. You're not going to get a lot of neutral backing on this one!

Also, why do I keep reading Watford fans being incensed that the wrong man was sent off? Yes, of course, it was mistaken identity but you all sound as if no-one deserved to go. Both Hall (definitely) and Ekstrand (quite possibly) committed red card offences so you can swap it to one or both of them if you prefer.

And as for the second penalty, while I agree that the contact is not absolutely obvious, I think there must have been something from either Hall or Almunia because Pugh's touch past Almunia was cushioned perfectly that he'd have got on to it easily for an open goal if he'd kept his feet.

So, two penalties, at least two, maybe three red card offences, and you got out of it with a 1-1 draw after being dominated all game long. Just be thankful guys!

Reasonable post but I take issue with one point and that's your suggestion that "Pugh's touch past Almunia was cushioned perfectly". It wasn't Pugh's touch. It was Hall's from a brilliantly timed tackle.

I'll have to go back to the football league show and study the slow motion replay again then! Perhaps you're right. I've just gone with the weight of evidence from all parties who have spoken about it and were involved -and how it looked to me - and reasoned he was clipped. Does beg the question what caused him to fall exactly if he wasn't fouled.

Anyway, well done to you guys for holding out. We really should have been able to get revenge for the thrashing early in the season - especially given the form you seem to be in at the moment - but unfortunately the way we play is big on possession football but it brings nowhere near enough chances created or cutting edge and it was the same on Saturday. No excuses for us failing to beat 10 men with the amount of ball we had.

Check us out on TV against Liverpool on Saturday. We'll probably see plenty of the ball again but scoring against them will no doubt be even tougher...
