Watford are trying to sign talented teenage striker David Faupala from Lens.

A source yesterday confirmed the Hornets are interested in securing a deal for the 16-year-old who reportedly walked out of training on Monday.

Faupala has a strong reputation in France after impressing for the Under-17 national side and he has scored four goals in 12 appearances for the Under-16 team.

The Hornets have reportedly offered Faupala a four-year deal and the player's agent, Jennifer Mendelewitsch, says the youngster is keen on a move to Vicarage Road.

"This is no passing fancy, it is a footballing choice, he wants to play," she told L'Equipe.

"David has a problem with some coaches. He feels exploited, just like his parents, by the club that has educated him."

Lens director of training Pascal Planque insists however Faupala is not for sale, saying there is "no question he leaves".

A 16 year old is not what we need at the moment. Get Danny Graham back 'til the end of the season.

Great for the future, but what about current targets?
We have been linked to a number of players and nothing has transpired with any of them.

I am not including being given Merkel and Ranegie.

He's just passed his baccalaureate (GCSE en France) in 'scoring ze goals'.
One for the future, ie not appearing in the first 11 this season, so not the striker Obi wan Beppe is looking for!

I agree with you about Danny Graham, he would be the perfect fit for us. He's due a few goals, we know him and we know he can score. Where's Nani though, probably doesn't even know who he is.

Danny Graham does not fit the Pozzo model, unfortunately!

That is why we are missing out on gems like Sharp going back to little old Donny, Wells going to Huddersfield, Graham, etc.

And this 16 year old kid might be one for the future under the model, but he clearly wants to play NOW according to the article, and that is unlikely to happen at the Vic!

Faupala might fit the Pozzo (and now Watford) model. That some of the finest young football talent in Europe are even considering Watford is testament to how this little ol' club of ours is evolving very quickly.

Talented players are signed on long contracts (5 years where possible) in exchange for which the player receives quality coaching and the time and opportunity to develop. Then they are sold (at a profit hopefully) to top clubs and the players are given the chance to enhance their careers with top European clubs. It's a win win situation if/when it works.

As regards Danny Graham, as much as I would love to see him back - assuming he can resume scoring at this level, he does not fit that model, Given he is on presumably substantial Prem wages that we cannot or will not pay. It is the Chalobah situation again and Forest may be prepared to pay these unrealistic and unsustainable wages for the Championship.
Some of these, what I would call medium sized clubs like Forest, QPR, Leicester etc will come a cropper with the fair play rules. It is a gamble that only works (especially this year) if you earn promotion (still possible but unlikely now for us).

This kid might think he is good enough but like Ikpeazu he will find playing against men is a different ball game all together. No 16 year old in any team would be getting a regular starting place unless they are outstanding in a lower division side , then what happens they get transferred for big money and no one ever see's them again
