Mathias Ranegie to be included in matchday squad and could make Watford debut against Manchester City

Mathias Ranegie could make his Watford debut against Manchester City on Saturday after Hornets boss Beppe Sannino confirmed the striker would be included in the squad.

When Ranegie joined Watford on a permanent deal from Udinese at the start of January, he was still shaking off a hamstring injury and the 6ft 5 striker has spent the last two weeks regaining sharpness.

Ranegie is now close to 100 per cent fitness and Sannino told the Watford Observer today (Thursday) the 6ft 5 striker would be in the squad for the FA Cup fourth round tie.

Watford will be without midfielders Lewis McGugan (thigh) and Iriney (groin) after they picked up muscle injuries against Bournemouth.

Fitz Hall and Alexander Merkel are suspended and Arsenal loanee Hector Bellerin is ineligible.

Almen Abdi suffered no ill effects from playing more than an hour against the Cherries last weekend but is unlikely to start at the Etihad.

Marco Cassetti could also be included after he recovered from the knee injury which ruled him out last weekend.

Essiad Belkalem (ankle) and Tommie Hoban (ankle) are long-term absentees.

just play 6 at the back. 6-2-2. If we have 6 fit defenders that is.

How about:
Almunia

Doyley
Angella
Cassetti
Ekstrand

Faraoni
Murray
Bottochio
Pudil

Ranegie
Deeney

We then have the like of Almen; Diego;Fernado; Nyron Ikechi etc potentially available.
It goes without saying the team have to work extremely hard; I believe the above 11 should be capable of that although I have not yet seen Ranegie in action. Our secret weapon?

The thing I like about this side and formation is that it gives the full backs some protection. Last year City went down the wings and targeted Pudil in particular. Milner and was it Kolarov had a field day and Pudil was all on his own. Good shout Pinner!

I'd bring Cassetti forward and play 3-3-2-2.

Tough enough with a fully fit squad but Merkel, Iriney, Bellerin & McGugan not available is a blow.

442 (or 451) would be better with the players left and hopefully Ranegie will turn out to be that elusive great goal scorer we been waiting for ALL season!

Regardless, got some really tough League games coming up so more important to not get any injuries or suspensions on Saturday.

Although a goal would be a great bonus :-)

This is why we luv football and particularly WFC. Although a win is very very unlikely a draw is a remote possibility. We would all settle for a respectable defeat with some decent performances. I agree with pushing Cassetti in front of the back four in a 4-4-2 or 4-5-1. Keep the faith as this is valuable experience for Sannino and players. Luv the Horns!

As Bond plays in all the cup games it would be unfair to leave him out of this one. We don't want Almunia injuring his back keep picking the ball out of the net.

Surely we will only be playing one up front so Deeney will miss out.

IMO - as much as I like Cassetti, he is a wing-back. Whilst his age may effect his fitness etc, I do think he is better off in his wing-back position and playing him out of position (DM) would be a mistake. His crossing is ok, but in field passing is dreadful. He holds on to the ball to long. I'm not digging him out because he is a great pro, but just because we are playing City we shouldnt play players out of position.

Keeping the score down tomorrow will be the goal. I would go with a 4-4-2 with Doyley, Angella, Ekstrand, Pudil - Farrone, Batto, Murray, Fabrini - Ranneggie and Deeney

Almunia played at Bristol ??? And he is our number 1 and against the best team in Europe will need his ability and experience.
