Manchester City may have watched DVDs of Watford and Stevan Jovetic may known Beppe Sannino and some of the Hornets players from their time in Italy but the Montenegrin admits the Premier League high-flyers were surprised by the Golden Boys’ quality yesterday.

Watford were leading 2-0 after half an hour of yesterday’s FA Cup fourth round tie and deservedly so.

Jovetic, who has been limited to just nine appearances this season due to injury, came on in the 57th minute and three minutes later Sergio Aguero started City’s comeback with their first of four goals, as Manuel Pellegrini’s team netted twice in the final minutes to progress.

Jovetic spent five years in Italy’s Serie A at Fiorentina and the 24-year-old embraced Watford’s head coach Sannino and a number of their players before the match.

“It was a difficult game and in the first half Watford played really well so it was important that we scored early into the second half,” Jovetic said.

“Honestly Watford surprised us. We watched the videos of them but in the videos we didn’t see their real side [like we did today].

“You can see they have an Italian coach and you can see they were good tactically.

“I know him (Sannino) from my time in Italy; we have met a couple of times. He has a good team with good players.”
