Watford became the first fourth division side to reach the fifth round of the FA Cup, beating third division champions-in-waiting Southampton in a fourth round replay.
Barry Hartle got the only goal of the game for the Hornets, who were described as "well above fourth division class" by the Daily Mirror.
Goalkeeper Jimmy Linton was the hero of the hour against a prolific Southampton side that was averaging almost three goals per game in the league.
A crowd of 28,154 saw the match, with several thousand more locked out.
