Watford-born bobsleigh chief Gary Anderson will take Great Britain's sled team to the Winter Olympics in confident mood after the quartet won a silver medal at the European Championships in Germany.

Anderson, who once was a pupil at Leggatts School and is now GB Bobsleigh's performance director, is aiming to lead Team GB to a fifth Olympic medal in the sport when the action starts in Sochi, Russia on February 7.

The European Championships race doubled-up as the final pre-Olympic World Cup and the four-man team were the second fastest European team and fourth best overall.

USA won the event in a combined time of 1.38.54. Switzerland came second and Britain's time of 1.38.85 was just 0.01 seconds slower than the third-placed Canada.

"It's a great result to send us to Sochi," Anderson told BBC Sport. "There is still much more to come from this crew."

He added: "We made subtle changes in technology that we will look at and analyse the impact of ahead of the Games."

John Jackson piloted Anderson's crew of Joel Fearon, Stuart Benson and Bruce Tasker.
