Beppe Sannino refused to confirm whether Watford are trying to sign any more players before tomorrow’s transfer window deadline but did say he would be happy if there were new additions.

Sannino does not have a hands-on role when it comes to the Hornets recruiting players, instead that is handled by technical director Gian Luca Nani.

The Golden Boys completed the signing of a defensive midfielder on Wednesday – which was their number one priority - with Daniel Tozser joining on loan until the end of the season.

Reports continued to link Watford with QPR’s Samba Diakite even when Tozser’s signing was imminent but, with eight midfielders already at Sannino’s disposal and the R’s insisting the Mali international’s future club contribute to a large proportion of his wages, a deal seems unlikely unless a player, namely Iriney, is moved on.

The Hornets initially hoped to sign a pacey striker before tomorrow’s deadline but the emergency loan window does reopen next week.

Sannino, who called for more personality from his players after tonight’s 4-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest, was asked whether he expected to make any new signings before the window closes.

He replied: “My thoughts are not on the transfer window. I want to do my best with this group of players. But if there are some players who join the club then I would be happy.”
