Watford midfielder Iriney joins Spanish side Mallorca

Watford midfielder Iriney has joined Mallorca until the end of the season, in what is expected to be a loan deal.

The Brazilian has passed his medical and is set to be officially unveiled at a press conference later this afternoon.

The 32-year-old struggled to hold down a place in Watford’s team following his permanent move from Granada in the summer.

Iriney made 14 starts and three substitute appearances for the Golden Boys in all competitions.

The combative player had spent 11 years in Spain before his move to Watford and made 236 appearances in all competitions during that time.

He joined Rayo Vallecano from Brazilian side Sao Caetano in 2002 and also enjoyed spells at Celta Vigo and Almeria before a three-year stint at Real Betis.

Iriney was a regular starter for Granada during the first half of last season but then the club opted for a more creative option after they signed Recio on loan from Malaga.

He is our only tackling midfielder, we dominated at Bournemouth until he went off injured.

I do not understand some of our recruitment.

linking up with Geijo who has done nothing in Spain's second league! You would hope we are bringing in a replacement as we were very light in midfield I though v Forest. Forest's beast of a midfielder Moussi just dominated us. Not too keen on Diakite (sounds like he is pants from QPR supporters I know). We also need a striker desperately - Fabbrini and Fessi good players but not the answer for goals to take the pressure of Deeney.

Also he was top wage earner so that might now leave funds available for others like that QPR player. I'm no fan of him but I give him a go if he wears a yellow shirt

Shame, I really wanted this guy to succeed at the Vic. Looked good playing for Granada last season.

Come on guys it's a no brainer stay at rainy Watford or go to sunny Majorca what are you going to do? Sorry to see him go in away as he did put his foot in and as has been said played well at Bournemouth before he went off with the injury. So yet another player joins the merry go round and is shipped out. is anyone keeping count??

It would be nice to have some stabiity in the team but I suppose Beppe is still trying to find the right combinations with the players he has fit. Hopefully soon he will find the answer before it's to late. I like the front three of Fessi, Anya and Troy but we need to stick at it for 90 minutes and not chop and change it as we have the last two games. Just over 7 hours to go before the transfer window closes has anyone seen the mystery pacey striker we're supposed to be buying???
