Watford have confirmed midfielder Iriney has joined Real Mallorca on loan until the end of the season, subject to the deal gaining international clearance.

The 32-year-old was expected to seal a move to the Islanders after undergoing and passing a medical.

Iriney, who joined the Hornets from Granada in the summer, returns to Spain after making 17 appearances this season.

He made 14 starts and three substitute appearances for the Golden Boys in all competitions.

The combative player had spent 11 years in Spain before his move to Watford and made 236 appearances in all competitions during that time.

He joined Rayo Vallecano from Brazilian side Sao Caetano in 2002 and also enjoyed spells at Celta Vigo and Almeria before a three-year stint at Real Betis.

Iriney was a regular starter for Granada during the first half of last season but then the club opted for a more creative option after they signed Recio on loan from Malaga.

Pre season looked like he was going to be really important to the set up, but like so many hasn't quite lived up to my expectations. Having said that, I'm still a little disapponted to see him go because he was coming back into things and we really need to start looking for a settled side that can be built apon for next season.

Just proves that these rubbish short term loan signings are not the answer - get some championship experienced hard nosed midfield players who understand the club and can lead the team with passion, guts and committment.

Can't say I'm gutted. He never adapted to the pace of the Championship for me and left us exposed on many occasions. I wish him well, but we've never replaced Hogg in this position.

Iriney not as good as Roger Joslyn or Dennis Booth, let alone Hogg or Eustace.

Agreed. I know there are all the stats about us winning more games with him than not, and the pass completion - but I felt we lost a certain energy whenever he played. If he was supposed to be the replacement for Hogg or Chalobah, instead he highlighted the importance of a fluid midfield. Neither Hogg nor Chalobah rigidly stuck to position, they got stuck in and got forwards too! Not a bad player, just not what's needed here.

I also wonder if he didn't quite settle off-pitch too. Family, language possibly?

I want a refund for all the pictures and postcards in my 8 year old sons room! As soon as we put his favourite player picture up I'm taking it down as they have left! It's causing chaos with the wallpaper and just not on. Maybe Mr Nani would like to come round and redecorate.?

I still have Andy Rankin on my wall and no problem at all.

Personally I liked Iriney and thought he was looking like he was improving over recent weeks but if the rumours are true that he couldn't really settle in England then maybe it is for the best - only time will tell.
