West Herts produced one of their best performances in a 4-1 win away to Harleston Magpies in East Premier A.

The Magpies were two points clear going into the game and had recently beaten Stags indoors, meaning the Watford side knew they were in for a tough test.

The hosts’ fast-moving midfield kept West Herts on their toes early on but it wasn't long before Stags took the lead as a move down the left gave Max Webster space to score.

Both teams worked hard throughout the first half but Herts were always slightly sharper and a short corner gave Dan Webster the chance to drag flick home for 2-0 before the break.

The second period began with Magpies redoubling their efforts but a lack of progress only made them more frustrated.

Herts all but put the game to bed with a superb team goal when Dan Webster played a one-two with Dan Scott before an excellent ball set up Max Webster to fire the ball in to Iain Gordon, who slotted home.

A clever run by Aaron Mitchell forced a horror tackle, resulting in a yellow card and a penalty stroke.

Dan Webster missed but soon made amends by finishing off a mazy run to make it 4-0. Magpies added a late consolation but the win was long secured.

West Herts ladies also made the trip to Harleston Magpies but were less successful as they lost 2-1 in East Premier.

A below-par performance let Mapgpies take a 2-0 advantage early on and while a well-worked goal for Herts from Rachel Findlay reduced the gap the score remained in Magpies’ favour.

The men’s seconds lost another game at home as they went down 6-3 against Colchester in Division One.

The team are running out of lifelines in the league and need to win at least three of their remaining games to survive.

The ladies’ seconds almost created an upset in 5 Counties Premier as they took a first-half lead at Welwyn Garden City but went on to lose 4-1.

Jo Lee netted the West Herts goal early on but as the game progressed, Welwyn showed their title credentials to run out comfortable winners.

The men’s thirds ended a poor run of results with a comprehensive 5-2 win over Bedford Thirds. A bad tempered encounter was settled by goals from Morné Hoffman (2), Rob Gabriel, Ian Gough and Justin Hoffman.

The ladies’ thirds lost 5-2 against Aylesbury’s second team at St Michael’s School and ending up losing by five goals to two. Vicky Cowley and Claire Lodge were on the scoresheet for West Herts.

The men’s fourths lost by the same scoreline to Cheshunt while the ladies’ fourths managed a 1-1 draw at Hertford.

There was a goal-fest at Stevenage but the men’s fifths lost out 5-4.

A brace of goals for Vicky Vetesse was the only consolation for the ladies’ fifths as they went down 5-2 to Blueharts fourths and the Hitchin club’s sixths handed out a real drubbing to West Herts sixths, winning 8-0.

The men’s sevenths grabbed a timely win at home against Stevenage fifths, running out 4-1 winners.
