Bushey Amateur Boxing Club’s Charlie Hudson has made it through to the finals of the British University Novice Championships in the 69kg category.

The former Queens’ School pupil, who has sparred with ex-Bushey fighter and current Southern Area super-featherweight champion Mitchell Smith, travelled to the University of Coventry for his quarter and semi-final bouts.

Hudson, who is representing Bath University, faced off against Swansea Metropolitan University’s Kieran Ekeledo in the last eight on Saturday and produced a dominant display.

The north Watford fighter’s superior reach meant he out-boxed his opponent to achieve a total shut-out victory on points.

On Sunday he was in semi-final action against Leeds Metropolitan University’s Calvin Pattison.

Hudson’s quick hands and superior footwork meant he was able to counter punch his way to a comfortable victory on the judges’ scorecards.

The finals of the competition will be held in Sheffield later this month and Hudson will be taking on Portsmouth’s University’s Ernest Wojic.
