Watford boss Beppe Sannino indicates Arsenal loanee Park Chu-Young may be given chance against Bolton Wanderers
Watford boss Beppe Sannino was pleased with Mathias Ranegie's debut against Yeovil Yown but suggested Arsenal loanee Park Chu-Young will be given his chance to impress against Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.
Ranegie made his first start for the Hornets since signing for the club in January and his first competitive appearance since November 3.
Sannino said after the match he was pleased with the 6ft 5 forward's contribution, particularly given the striker's lack of competitive action in recent months.
"He gave a lot today and at the end he was a little bit tired," Sannino said.
"He did well when you consider he has not played for a long time.
"I thought about taking him off for Park but I thought we might concede something from a set-piece so I left him on the pitch. I thought he worked his socks off today."
Sannino previously suggested Ranegie would compete with Troy Deeney for a place up front alongside the smaller and more technical Fernando Forestieri.
The Italian said his selection last night was influenced by Yeovil's style of play and indicated that Chu-Young could be given an opportunity to play against Bolton this weekend.
"I picked Deeney and Ranegie up front because I was also considering the kind of game we were going to play against this kind of opposition," Sannino said.
"Park I think will have his chance in the next game."
Ranegie signed for Watford on the same day as Alexander Merkel who was handed his fourth start for the Hornets at Huish Park.
Sannino believes the 21-year-old's displays are getting better as he improves his match sharpness.
"Merkel improved in his performance today in terms of what I've seen in the past," the Hornets boss explained.
"It was good for him to get more minutes in his legs - he is another player we can use and I am happy with him."
