Tabard proved the better side at Diss on Saturday as they clinched a 21-10 victory in London One North.

In an untidy game, not helped by the blustery conditions and heavy rain, Tabard started impressively and went ahead in the 12th minute.

From a penalty, the ball was caught cleanly and Tabard drove forcefully towards the line. Second row Cam O’Connor received a pass and he was able to go over to put the visitors ahead. The hosts forced their way back into the contest and had good periods with the ball, however, the Tabard defence performed well and kept them at bay.

Tabard were then awarded a penalty for offside and standoff Jack Reilly confidently fired between the uprights to extend Tabard’s advantage.

Diss were awarded a penalty shortly before the interval and they reduced the deficit as Peter Chartier converted.

Conditions deteriorated during the second period and Tabard’s full back Elliot Hurrell took full advantage.

A handling error allowed him space to gather the ball and run over.

Diss attempted a fight-back and applied pressure on the visiting defence. They got the try they deserved as John Laurie broke through to touch down and the extras were added by Chartier.

Tabard responded and scored a penalty via the boot of Jack Reilly.

Diss tried to force their way back into the game but Tabard continued to play sensible rugby.

With ten minutes left they put the game out of Diss’ reach with another try.

Flanker Scott Stoba managed to break through and touch down to complete the victory.

Tabard take on Westcliff at home this weekend in a rearranged fixture.
