Miles Shinkwin is finally set to fight for the Southern Area light-heavyweight title after the British Boxing Board of Control put his proposed bout with the champion up for purse bids.

The former Bushey Boxing Club fighter has been chasing a fight with Southern Area champion Leon Senior for several months and finally his perseverance has paid off.

The BBBofC confirmed on Friday it had called for purse bids for the contest and that the fight had to take place before the end of May.

A purse bid allows promoters and match-makers to make offers for the right to host a contest and in this instance, they have until March 4 to submit their request, which will then be considered if a voluntary agreement between the two fighters' representatives cannot reached beforehand.

Senior (10-2) has a non-title fight with former Commonwealth middleweight title challenger Tony Hill on March 15 and it is currently unclear whether he then plans to face Shinkwin or vacate the Southern Area belt.

A week later, on March 22, Shinkwin, who is unbeaten in six fights as a professional, has an International Masters title fight against Josef Krivka (4-4) at York Hall.

Speaking this afternoon, the 25-year-old said: "I now know that my next two fights are for belts so as a young professional, I cannot ask for much more than that. As for who it will be against, we will have to wait and see.

It was a great weekend for Bushey Boxing Club graduates after Shinkwin's stable-mate Mitchell Smith returned to the ring in style. Read more here.
