Olympic gold medallist Luke Campbell was taken to points by Chuck Jones but Oxhey Village-based fighter Romeo Romaeo is confident he can go one better and stop Jones this weekend.

Romaeo, who is already creating debate in British boxing after just two professional fights, has been living in Oxhey Village since May after moving in with his promoter Mark Prior, who is hosting tomorrow’s (Saturday’s) show at Harrow Leisure Centre.

The 18-year-old secured a knock-out on his professional debut in November but was taken to points by Krzysztof Rogowski (6-4) a month later.

This weekend’s opponent, Jones, has lost 13 of his 19 bouts but has only been stopped once before.

However, Romaeo believes he has superior knock-out power to Jones’ previous opponents, such as 2012 Olympic gold medallist Campbell, and will secure a stoppage in the six-round contest.

“Luke Campbell was taken all the way but I’m confident I will stop this kid,” the super-featherweight said.

“At the end of the day, we both have two completely different styles. His (Campbell’s) style is from the amateurs and mine is geared towards professional fighting.

“The way Luke fought Chuck was going in straight lines but to beat someone like Chuck Jones, you need movement, angles and combinations. You need to move around him to confuse him so he doesn’t know where the shots are coming from.”

The Bristol-born boxer also prides himself on extravagant entrances to his contests. This time around it will be Jungle theme and fans shouldn’t be surprised if they see someone dressed in a gorilla costume.

The fight at the top of the bill at Harrow tomorrow will be Danny Murphy versus the unbeaten Ahmet Patterson for the International Masters welterweight title.

Tickets are still available from 07500 869640 and can be purchased on the night.

Romaeo is also taking part in a skipping world record attempt in July to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital. Read more in news.
