A youthful Watford side comfortably progressed through the second round of the Herts Senior Cup last night with a 3-0 victory at Potters Bar Town.
After several postponements, the tie was finally able to be played and a Kurtis Cumberbatch goal and a brace from substitute Michael Folivi secured a third round date with Boreham Wood for the Hornets.
With the exception of captain and first-year professional Luke O’Nien, Dave Hughes’ side was made up of Under-16 players and scholars and the youngsters coped well with the physical challenge of facing older opponents.
All three goals came within an eight-minute spell in the second half with Cumberbatch giving the visitors the lead after beating the offside trap and rounding keeper James Cattlin.
Having made the breakthrough, Watford doubled their advantage moments later when Folivi capitalised on a one-on-one opportunity.
Folivi netted his second with ten minutes to play, heading past the Potters Bar keeper to round off a neat build-up from the Hornets.
Watford: Wilks; Eletheriou, O’Nien, Kyprianou; Bawling, Stewart, Cox, Mason; Cumberbatch, Choi (Folivi 60), Obi. Not used: Makaka, Rowan, Armenakas, Otudeko.
