Watford supporters vented their frustration at chairman Jack Petchey following a pathetic 3-0 capitulation to Grimsby Town, when a pitch invasion culminated in an attempt to storm the directors' box.
Petchey was absent from the game at a business meeting, but condemned the 'minority hooligan element' as unacceptable.
A crowd of 5,109 watched the game, a figure exceeded by every subsequent league fixture at Vicarage Road.
