Watford keen to sign Genoa midfielder Daniel Tozser permanently - but not yet

Watford would like to sign Daniel Tozser permanently but Beppe Sannino has stressed the club does not want the distraction of trying to make new signings before the end of the season.

Tozser has arguably been the Hornets’ most consistent performer since he joined the club on loan from Genoa at the end of January.

The 28-year-old has played every minute of the eight games since his arrival and has proved a big hit with supporters.

Tozser has another two years left on his Genoa contract but had not featured for the club all season before moving to Vicarage Road, having made 22 outings during his first year at the Serie A outfit.

When asked if Watford could sign Tozser permanently in the summer, Sannino said: “Of course. He is a player who is showing us good quality but we have to wait until the end of this season before we start to think about next season.

“My opinion is that we don’t need any distractions like signings or something like that at the moment. We have to be focused on the pitch and always give our best every game and then see what we achieve at the end of the season.”

Watford are likely to face competition from other clubs for Tozser due to his vast experience.

Tozser started his career at Debrecen and joined Galatasaray in his teens before returning to his native Hungary with Ferencváros.

After a two-year stay, AEK Athens signed the player in 2006, where he tasted Champions League football for the first time.

In 2008 Belgian side Genk reportedly paid around €1.5m to sign the defensive midfielder and he again featured in the Champions League during a four-year spell.

The Hungarian international, who has 20 caps, then joined Genoa in 2012.

On Monday Sannino also clarified comments he made regarding Troy Deeney’s future at the weekend.

To some, Sannino appeared to indicate Deeney may not be at Watford next season.

However, the Italian stressed: “I don’t want to be misunderstood. The message is that all my colleagues would like to play in the Premier League one day. I am like my colleagues, I think Troy deserves to play in the Premier League but that doesn’t mean there are any problems with him or that we could lose him in the future.

Watford Observer:

“The best outcome for me would be to see Troy playing in the Premier League with Watford.

“But it isn’t only Troy; there are other players here who I would like to see playing in the Premier League as soon as possible.”

Not much point asking a man whose contract expires at the end of the season, if we are to permanently sign a man on a contract for two year at another club... Especially when the man asked has little or no say in signings anyway! That said the only thing that makes up for the continued, frustrating, and sad absence of Almen Abdi is the thought that Tozser could sign for us permanently. A superb addition to the team, and a loan player who has made a real (positive) difference.

Well as he has a contract till end of next season I think he is in a position to say what he wants ? Perhaps fans should know what they are talking about before making comments ?

Ok, if you want to nitpick he is on a one year deal, with the option to extend it a further year. Doesn't make a huge difference to my posting though, does it?

Daniel Tozser has been a breath of fresh air in a disappointing season. He should be signed as soon as it becomes possible. After so many flops being brought into the side, he is one addition who we can consider to be a success.

Nitpick ? a complete post of non facts so yes !!!! Contract expires at end of season...no it doesn't......Man asked has little or no say in signings....again a complete non factual statement. He has a say in signings in a recruitment forum they hold when they discuss players. He may not go out and look but players are brought to the attention on the board....then 4-5 people including Sannio and gino pozzo sit to discuss the options in front of them.

Good news. We don't just need an on-loan Tozser, we need a complete Tozsler.

That's correct. Why do people insist Sannino has a contract only until the end of the season?

Genoa must have some squad for Toszer not to feature at all. He's too good for the Championship, would be amazed if we managed to sign him, he'll get offers from clubs in the top flight all over Europe.

Oh dear ....... usual rude obnoxious reply to a post , and you really need to know that our manager is (Giuseppe) Sannino not Sannio, and Gino Pozzo is a somebody's name and therefore should be written with capital letters....... it's attention OF the board not attention ON the board........ only nitpicking you understand!
