Danny Wilson praised Watford’s strong home form after yesterday’s 3-0 defeat for Barnsley but felt his team were the architects of their own downfall with their defending for the first two goals.

Following the midweek defeat at home to leaders Leicester City, this was the second consecutive game the Tykes have lost by the same scoreline.

Asked if the loss at Vicarage Road was worse than the loss at the hands of the Foxes, the manager responded: “It is because of the way we conceded the first goal. And when you’ve got a team with the quality of Watford, when they’ve got their tails up it is difficult. It’s the same as Leicester. When they’ve got their tails up it’s difficult to rein them back.

“Is that six games at home without a goal conceded here? I think it’s something like that. That’s a terrific record so they’re doing something right. But what I would like to think is that other teams haven’t been given them the goals we gave them today. They didn’t have to work for those two goals. That was the annoying part about it; they didn’t have to work particularly hard for those two goals. It was our poor decisions that gave them the opportunities.”
