Ray Lewington was sacked as the manager of Watford.

Having taken the hot seat on the departure of Gianluca Vialli, Lewington had presided over a difficult period with the need to rapidly cut costs dictating the reshaping of his squad.

He nonetheless preserved the club's second tier status and his side qualified for two cup semi-finals within three years.

His dismissal came barely three months after a League Cup semi-final with Liverpool, but on the back of a run of only four wins in 24 league games.
