Kings Langley kept up their pursuit of a top two spot in Spartan South Midlands Division One with a 2-1 win against Harpenden Town.

Harpenden, who lost their previous fixture against Kings 11-1, looked determined to avenge the hammering at Gaywood Park. They started strongly and Harry Hunt forced a full length save from goalkeeper Ant Ladyman.

Town then opened the scoring. Hunt disposed Dean Hitchcock before delivering a low cross to Mark Hitchcock who was left with a simple tap in.

Jack Johnson hit the post soon after but Harpenden led at the interval and had looked the stronger side.

Kings changed their formation to an adventurous 4-2-4 and looked to force their way back into the game. Nick Jackson came agonizingly close with a shot before Craig Preston converted a low cross from Danny Hutchins to level the game.

Hutchins grabbed a second ten minutes from time with a free kick that sailed past Matt Lord in the Harpenden goal from 25 yards.

Strong performances from Callum Adebiyi and Tom Carter ensured the win in the closing stages and Kings went on to claim a vital three points in their push for honours this season.

On Saturday, Kings were in ruthless form as they thumped Wodson Park 7-0. Alex Campana grabbed a hat-trick, Connor Toomey netted a brace and there were singles from Jackson and Tom Carter.

Kings sit third in the table and are four points behind second placed Bedford. However, they have two games in hand.
