The Watford Freestyle Boxing Club enjoyed a successful venture at the largest karate competition in Europe, picking up seven medals including three golds at the Irish Open.
Shannon Ryan won the Women’s -50kg semi contact class. Ryan, 17, was also eligible for the girls division of -50kg semi contact, and won this event too.
She also featured in the adult team competition, but the team struggled and lost in the first round. Thomas Hunter picked up a gold medal in the boys -47kg semi contact class, as well as moving up a division to the -52kg, and winning the silver.
Isabella Glater took silver, as did Hannah Whitaker, who picked up bronze, in the Ladies -70kg light contact division. Mark Williams, Alfie Portsmouth, Sami Jassim and Dominic Glater also fought well, and were unlucky not to take a medal home from Dublin.
