Watford midfielder Sean Murray believes the contrast in the Hornets’ home and away form this season is down to concentration rather than tactical changes.

Watford are unbeaten at Vicarage Road in seven games but have failed to win away from home since October, with nine draws and four losses.

However, the 20-year-old puts this down to a lack of composure rather than a different approach to away games.

"I think maybe it is concentration. We have been conceding goals late on in games and that is fully down to concentration and allowing ourselves to come under pressure," Murray said after Tuesday’s 3-3 draw with Blackburn Rovers.

"We should be coping with situations a lot better and away from home we haven’t done that.

"Keeping hold of a good scoreline from the first half has been our downfall all season. We have nine more games to improve and hopefully we can do that heading into next season."

Murray’s teammate Troy Deeney believes Watford are not as effective at pressing teams away from Vicarage Road.

“At home we go and press really high up the pitch and it just doesn't feel like we're doing that when we're away,” the striker told the club’s website.

"Maybe it comes down to self-belief; there's no reason for us to feel any different but it would only need a handful of players to have a slightly different mentality to the thing and the outcome has the potential to be so different."

Tuesday’s draw leaves Watford ten points off the Championship play-off places. It is looking unlikely the Hornets will be able to secure a place in the top six but Murray hasn’t given up hope.

Speaking on Tuesday, he said: "You can never say never because look at the results tonight, the teams above us all lost. You never know what’s going to happen.”

He added: “There are still nine games left and a lot of points to be won in those nine games. I think if we keep pushing, and work out where we’re going wrong, we can do well.”
