Almen Abdi was the winner of the Watford Observer Player of the Season last year but who will follow the midfielder and become the 42nd holder of the prestigious honour?

It is again time for you to help decide as, in association with Watford FC, we begin our annual search to find the Hornets’ top player of the Championship season.

For the first time since Tommy Smith lifted the award in 2008 due to subsequent winners leaving Vicarage Road, Abdi has the opportunity to retain the trophy. That is unlikely due to the midfielder’s injury-ravaged campaign. Troy Deeney, who has finished third in each of the last two seasons, has the opportunity to improve on that position while Marco Cassetti and Lloyd Doyley were also voted into the top six 12 months ago.

To cast your Player of the Season vote, click here.

This is also the medium through which you can help select the Goal of the Season from the 13 shortlisted nominations.

Cristian Battocchio won the award last year for applying the finish to the wonderful team move against Huddersfield Town and the midfielder leads the nominations this time around with three goals shortlisted. Top scorer Deeney has two goals in contention, as do Ikechi Anya and Lewis McGugan.

A system of one person, one vote will again be strictly enforced and votes received without an accompanying name, address and phone number will not be counted.

As is tradition – and via a form for practical reasons – the views of the travelling fans will be canvassed on the coaches to Millwall on Saturday, April 12, along with the players, before the winners are announced at the club’s awards dinner on Sunday, May 4.

When you vote, please use the Goal of the Season identification letter to assist with counting and the deadline for voting in both categories is midnight on April 12.

I hope it's not tozser, as good as he's been it has only been 1/3 of a season so far.

I'm going Angella, keeping him is key to next season I think.

Goals was very hard this season went for
McGugan @ home to Derby
Battochio @ home to Barnsley
Deeney @ home to Bournemouth

Certainly wasn't as easy as last seasons clear winner which was the Battochio goal, but remember after voting closed we had Chalobah's stonker at Leicester, Abdi's beautiful goal against Leeds and Vydra and Deeney's goals against Leicester in the Play-Off's

Sigh........ I miss that team!

For me only two players have been consistent enough and played enough games to be in with a shout: Deeney and Angella. I'd give it to Deeney for being so often the lone striker, and almost matching last season's tally without the brilliance of Abdi and the intimidating finishing of strike partner Vydra.

Forestieri. More mature this season and has been a constant threat - we look a much better team when he is on the pitch and miss him more than any other player when he doesn't play (Abdi excepted!). Deeney has been excellent but did have quite a loss of form earlier in season and didn't look interested for a while so not quite there for me.

Mate, give this fella a break! If ever you find yourself living abroad I'd hope that you kept up the same level of passion and interest as our SA friend here.
Modern day media enables anyone to see games live or recorded and keep in touch with the goings on. Surely he's as entitled to have an opinion as much as anyone else?

Is that based on the reports you have read on here?

Deeney had too much of a lazy spell for him to get the award in my opinion - the exact opposite of what you want want from a self-proposed main man. However, his goals have been crucial.

Forestieri has been good and exciting but not quite there.

Angella has been a real leader and important.

Unfortunately there is no doubt in my mind that Toszer is our player of the season. He really is a cut above and getting him to stay for next seaso. Would be incredible!

I think there is case for fans to be short sighted on rare occasions when it comes to strikers, Deeny has developed into a good player and could go on to be outstanding, he is still young.

Deeny is a natural footballer which frustrates fans, because is talented he can be lazy and still score, however, when a talented Deeney puts a shift in he can be devastating, he doesn't sometimes and this frustrates the hell out of fans.

All the same Deeny is a player who creates ambivalence, violently from one match to another we love him we hate him type player, hence I would normally agree short sighted is not good however, sometimes a case can be made for it to be acceptable such a case is Deeny!
