Doncaster Rovers boss Paul Dickov says his former team-mate Lucas Neill will bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to his side after the Watford defender signed on loan.

The Australia captain, who played with Dickov at Blackburn Rovers, has joined Doncaster until April 22.

Niell joined Watford in February but played just six minutes for the Hornets before departing yesterday.

Dickov told Donny's website: “Lucas is a fantastic signing for Doncaster Rovers, he is a top professional and has captained Australia in the World Cup.

“I played with him at Blackburn and I know him very well, he brings a wealth of experience and knowledge of the game, he is a great person both on and off the field.”

Neill added: "I have chosen to join Paul Dickov at Doncaster because of a positive conversation we had about the remaining games,” Neill told the Doncaster Rovers website.

“Having played with the manager during our Blackburn days, I know the style of his team's play will reflect that of his playing career and that is a competitive, hard working and energetic style.

“Lucas is as fit now as I have ever seen him, which is credit to him and his attitude.

“There were a lot of other Championship clubs interested in signing him, but he wanted to come to Doncaster, I’d like to thank everyone across the board getting the deal over the line.”
