John Deehan lamented Sheffield Wednesday’s defensive display following their 4-1 defeat against Watford yesterday.

The Owls had gone into the game on the back of four straight home wins, conceding only one goal in the process, but a poor display at the back was at the route of their loss against the Hornets.

Standing in for manager Stuart Gray who was attending his son’s wedding, Wednesday coach Deehan said: “We’ve got to defend a lot better than we did today. We’ve had an off day right along the back four. I don’t think that any of them would come out and say I did my core job which is to defend to 100 per cent.

“They’ll probably say I did quite a lot of attacking and I’ve been involved in some set plays but defensively, they never seemed to get started for 20 minutes and that left us 2-0 behind and chasing the game which is very difficult against a team of their quality and ability.”
