AUDIO: Beppe Sannino's delight at seeing Watford's Almen Abdi outside and smiling

Watford’s 4-1 win at Sheffield Wednesday was a good one for head coach Beppe Sannino. Not only because his side ended their 14-match winless away run but also because Almen Abdi finished the game smiling.

Abdi has an ongoing foot injury which meant that prior to yesterday he had not featured since January 30 and had not started a game since August 31.

The club’s current Watford Observer Player of the Year came on as a 70th-minute substitute at Hillsborough.

And speaking in English after the game, Sannino said: “Almen was a very good player last season and we will need Almen in the future. Today is a big and nice day for me because Almen finished the game in condition.”

“I am happy for him because he finished the match outside and smiling,” Sannino added.

Good to hear Beppe's English is coming along. I know from my own experience that it's not easy learning a new language later in life although to be fair I doubt my tutoring was of the quality or intensity that he is getting. He should be getting close to fluent by the start of next season.

Saturday proved that we are not so far away from being a very good team. Lets do a 'Leicester' next season. Enjoy the remaining games and build confidence. Luv the Horns!

Great to see Almen back on the pitch again with a smile on his face.

What a brilliant trip it was up to Sheffield Wednesday.

Had a bit of verbal sparring with some Luton fans on the way up there including one who wanted to "take me out" backed up by 20 of his mates. Needless to say nothing happened but it makes you realise what a sad little club they are. Ha Ha I was really sorry to see them get beat 2-0 at Halifax.

As for the match well the travelling Hornet fans were superb with us outsinging Sheffield Wednesday for virtually all the game. The new Beppe song based on "Gold" by Spandau Ballet was a real hit and by the end everyone was singing it. Hats off to the boys for hitting four goals and conceding only one against. It was hard to pick out any one player as all had a pretty good game.

Burnley next and then Leeds. If we could get six points out of those two games things could get interesting. I think we've probably left it a bit late for the play offs but we're certainly going to have a say on who makes the top six.

It's great news about Abdi, but we have to understand that he won't start getting back to his best until he stops thinking about the foot during the game. which will probably be next season.

Too late for the play offs realistically, about 3% chance of making it really. However since Beppe took over he's done well. His points ratio per game is 1.5 points per game. Spread that over an entire season it gets you 69 points, enough to make the play-offs last season although normally not quite enough. However factoring in that he came to a team in disarray having lost 6 at home on the bounce without scoring a goal, I think he has to have done enough to get a full season next time. To have done any better he would have had to be an absolute miracle worker

Abdi smile? Lets get excited when he can hop around on his foot for a bit, or whatever test they do to show he is cured of his injury. If he is fit all of next season we and Beppe stand a good chance of being involved in a promotion campaign.
