The Hornets have refused to confirm which scholars have been given professional contracts - stating they will make an announcement shortly.

We understand Watford's second-year scholars were told who would - and who wouldn't - be given pro deals last week.

It is believed Under-18s captain Jorell Johnson, centre back partner Josh Doherty, midfielder George Byers and striker Alex Jakubiak were give contracts by the Golden Boys. The players were also listed on social media by several people over the weekend.

But when asked if they could confirm if those were the four players given professional contracts, Watford said they plan to make an announcement shortly regarding the decisions on second-year scholars.

Johnson is a centre half who travelled with the first team whilst still a first-year scholar. But he did miss a few months earlier this season following ankle surgery.

Doherty is a left-footed centre back who plays for Northern Ireland Under-19s. He can also be used in midfield and takes penalties for Watford Under-18s.

George Byers is a cultured central midfield player and Scotland at youth level. He is capable of spectacular long-range goals, as he showed against Norwich City in the FA Youth Cup earlier this season.

Alex Jakubiak is the Under-18s top scorer this season, with 23 goals in 23 appearances if you include the Premier League Under-21 Cup. He is currently on loan at Braintree Town and has made one start and six substitute appearances, scoring one goal.

One of last year's scholars, Luke O'Nien, is still waiting to find out if he will be given a contract extension by Watford. Read more here.
