The Hornets travelled to Turf Moor to face Burnley on a ground where they had managed just a single draw in eight previous competitive visits.

This paltry return was improved upon in dramatic style as the Hornets galloped to a 7-4 victory.

Nine goals were scored in the first half, with Gareth Taylor's hat-trick for the home side eclipsed by loanee Michael Chopra's four for the Hornets.

Chops only joined as Watford were in the FA Cup still. Good goal scorer we should have picked up but cash was always tight to repay the debts for the dross that Vialli brought in.

Shame Tommy Smith walked out because Chopra was picked ahead of him. A club with its eye on the ball would not have left his contract that late.
