On this date in Watford FC's history
Saturday, April 6, 1929
Watford earned a 3-0 victory over Exeter City at Vicarage Road.
Amongst the crowd was Arsenal manager Herbert Chapman, reportedly keeping an eye on the progress of Watford's new goalscorer 'Boy' Barnett.
Despite Barnett netting the final goal, Chapman's attention was caught by 17-year-old Exeter outside-left Cliff Bastin who signed for Arsenal that summer and went on to score a record 150 league goals for the side, ironically earning the nickname 'Boy'.
He was also to make one appearance for Watford, guesting in wartime at Vicarage Road.
