Bonnie Horwood wants to make it third time lucky for her and Watford Ladies this coming season as both prepare for another new adventure together.

Horword returned to the Watford dressing room for the second time in her career last season, making 11 appearances on loan from Lincoln and scoring twice.

She’s back permanently for a third spell as Watford form part of a newly-introduced second tier of the FA Women’s Super League after finishing as runners-up in the Premier League National Division last term.

And Horwood insists she is determined to go one further this season and help Watford live up to their tag as one of favourites for promotion to the established first division.

Horwood said: "They were my first choice when moving. I’ve always liked it when I have been there before and I feel at home when I play there.

"Last year we felt that everyone seemed to underestimate Watford but then we finished second.

"Sunderland won the league and we managed to draw twice against them. We’re hoping that with the same squad, who are one year older now, we will be a lot stronger and we can push on again."

Horwood highlighted Emma Beckett, the ex-Charlton midfielder, as a player to watch this season as well as new signing Gemma Bryan.

Watford have considerable international experience in their squad too with Megan Wynne, Sarah Wiltshire and Josie Green all involved in Wales’ senior set-up.

Goalkeeper Lauren Davey has also appeared for England’s Under-23s and Horwood is full of belief they can challenge Sunderland, who join them in the second division again.

"We have a young squad and we’re always looking to defy expectations," Horwood added.
